Wood-
Portraits & Figures
I work on wood that I discover in nature. I look for the tension that is hidden in the wood that I find. I do not seek for a sculpture that is hidden in the wood. In fact, the sculpture finds me. Great sculptors have mentioned that the sculpture is already there.
After I have found the piece of wood it is dried and then I start with removing the rotted and soft parts. I remove the exccess from the wood. I continue this process until I reach the "nucleus". This artitistic voyage to the center of the wood is exciting as I do not know where I'll end up. In a sense, I work from the chaos of the material but do not add to it. After having revealed more than 100 sculptures I can truly say: the sculpture was already there.
