I am a portrait and landscape artist and my favorite medium is pastels, which I fell in love with the first time I touched them. I'm inspired by by simple, direct moments that reveal character and life, especially in children, who are refreshingly frank. In addition to taking commissions, I show in galleries, enter juried art shows, and teach local workshops and classes. Though I have always loved painting, I had planned a career as a college professor. After earning a Ph.D. in English, I taught college for ten years, but painted for pleasure whenever I had time, especially portraits of my children. When people who saw my work began to offer me commissions, I decided to pursue my real passion seriously. I’ve been painting and teaching pastel painting full time for the past four years.
