I am a Cherokee artist.I enjoy creating artwork that reflects not only my heritage, but that of my daughter; she is Cherokee/Lakota Sioux. Some of my work has a deep political/social message, some are humorous, and some just are. I paint, draw (pencil, charcoal, pastels, pen & ink), do beadwork, porcupine quillwork, pottery, and am trying to learn to woodcarve in memory of my father. I have done political cartoons for my tribe's newspaper in the past, but I guess "the powers that be" don't have much of a sense of humor so I don't do that anymore. :) I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed creating it!
I have originals and giclee prints of various sizes available to purchase. Giclee prints are custom printed to my collectors' specifications, so please allow extra time for delivery. Please contact me regarding pricing.
I also accept commissioned work with contract and deposit.

Nice design and color. Lots of repetitive shapes. I love how Indian art has grown the last few years in the mainstream art world: for it has opened so many venues for a very unique way of art that speaks like none other. www.BoydGreeneArt.com

Well you're welcome for the humor. You did answer my question. Very interesting work and stories. Glad you shared.

Jeanie thanks for your comments, I was laughing the whole time! I guess I just took it for granted that people would know what I was talking about! :)
It's a big porcupine alright, but it's only the hide, I'm not chasing him around a pen with a bowl plucking quills off him--how scary would that be??? LOL My hubby-to-be orders hides from a guy out west, and they are cured, so I take small strips of the hide, wet the back of it and sort through the hair to find the quills. Then I pull them out--and yes I get stuck all the time!
Most of the old time quillworkers used to moisten the quills by putting them in their mouth (after they are cleaned of course), but I tried that once and I accidentally got a porcupine tongue piercing. So now I just put them on a tray in water, so they are moist when I'm ready to sew them down.
Again, thanks for the humor, and I hope I answered your question.

Helen your stories are fascinating and so far removed from my life. I love the humor and genuine creativity in your work especially the PER CAPITA REZ DOGS. I have a question for you. When you say you're going to pluck quills, what does that mean...literally? I used to have pygmy hedgehogs and I remember those accidental, tiny painful jabs. Are we talking big, live porcupines here? How the heck do you do that?
Blessings,
Jeanie
