With a BFA from The Columbus College of Art & Design, I have practiced my trade for over 20 years as a commercial artist & illustrator while doing business as Studio 49 . My love for painting & collage, along with personal events in my life, finally lead me to begin "The Joan Series" in 2001.
"The Joan Series" is an on going body of work, expressing a woman's desire to act out her fantasies using her inner strength which is depicted as a box of "Arm & Finger Bitching Soda".
Joan has recently discovered her vices, "Joan's Preservatives", to help her cope with her struggles as she begins to face the old baggage in order to move forward in her search to find herself.
With my appreciation for vintage advertising, I've created each piece as an old advertisement, with Joan being represented as a 1960's housewife, appearing innocent and sweet with her fake smile, but when examined more closely you will find the whimsical to be more wicked than that.

Joan's Journey 2007-01-31 Joan is a woman who finally broke away from an abusive relationship in the year 2000. She has been on a healing journey since January of 2001, expressing her anger of being viewed as just a pretty little ornament and not worthy of respect.
For several years, Joan has been finding her own self-worth and courage as she steps forward to have her voice heard, her feelings respected and her strength recognized.
Joan represents many women...women of power and women who are survivors!
