My themes are the female figure, horses, stars and other archetypal images. In my works I explore what it is to be human, and celebrate the miracle of our individual consciousness in the face of the enormity of the universe.
Viewing art as artifact, I call upon the physical presence and power of the materials used, which are the natural fibers, earth pigments, and oils that artists have used since stone-age times. I avoid the confines of a rectangular stretched canvas, instead letting each painting grow around the shape that develops, in an invocation of the fragmentary art that reaches us from the past.

Artist needs help!

it's the old story---things going great in the studio, but can't make it in the marketplace. I work long hours in the studio, when I am free to. I have devoted my life to making art, working as a waitress and similar jobs, to get by. After 30 years of this, I finally feel I am beginning to make the art that I have been aiming towards, all this time. I feel that I am on the verge of a breakthough, a period of great artistic productivity and fulfillment. But wait! Can't paint---must pay the bills! Every day, when I go to my minimum-wage job, I know that there goes another painting, that I am not painting. It will never be painted, in fact, because the painting that I would have created at that time and place, will never come back to me. I am not there to paint it, and so it will not come into being, ever. Instead, I will be waiting on customers for $6. something an hour, and sliding further into debt, anyway.

I need a gallery to represent me, or an agent, or someone who knows how to let me earn enough to keep painting. My needs are modest---I just want to be able to get by, and buy paints and canvas. There is no place to sell the art I do, around here---it's a rural Appalachian community. But I am mobile, I can get my paintings to any place I can drive to. i have family in several East Coast cities, Philadelphia especially, and could easily bring/send my paintings there. Isn't there some way to make this work? Can anyone help me?
