Watercolor - Abstract

There are words to an old song, You will see the soul of the crystal reflected in the edges of mirrors, and you will see the soul of world reflected in the edges of dreams. In my artworks I try to go behind the usual understanding of things and events. I try to show another side of world, the edges of reality which reflect one another endlessly creating our universe. I think of the questions of life, death, creativity, and love. How does a soul come to this world? How does one separate dream and reality? How does love change the world? How does the mind of Universe reflect itself in people and nature?

Except working as an artist, I am clinical pharmacologyst, PhD of medecine.

MOTHER
2008-02-22
There is a mother who gives life to a child. There is a Mother who gives birth to a soul. She creates the flow of life which never ends.

THE ONE WHO TOLD
2008-02-22
Universe consists of complicated patterns of basic lines of energy. These lines live – move, change their colors, and interact between with one another. When they interlace they create something – a soul, an event, or even an entire world. When millions of worlds interact and interlace they create Mind. Or Mind creates and changes these worlds by its existence?

SISTERS
2008-02-22
Imagine that there were two twin sisters. They were always together and lived in one world only for them. Then one of them died, but a strong connection between them still exists. One sister lives by two lives. She is half in life and half in death, half in this world and half behind the borders of this world.

TWO
2008-02-22
This picture is about love: about the interaction between two people, their love, and the universe. When people love each other, they change not only themselves but also the world around them. The Universe responds to this and changes itself as well.

DANCE
2008-01-18
Dance is rhytm – Rhytm is sound.
This is one of the basic features of the universe. It is possible to touch the universe through the dance.

SUMMER
2008-01-18
This picture is about childhood, about sunlight, freedom and adventure.

THE MOTHER OF THE OCEAN
2008-01-18
It is told in one of the ancient stories that the world was created on the back of giant fish. This fish is the symbol of Water, the basis of all the life on the Earth. We can not see the soul of Water itself, we can see only mask of it. Different nations gave different masks, but only few people are able to see the soul behind the mask.

THE KEEPER OF THE GROUND
2008-01-18
This picture is dedicated to ancient civilizations.
The world is old. The Tree of the World has drunk all the water from ground and has died. The soul of this world, however is alive, and it keeps its hoard of treasures and knowledge. Some people can touch it and receive this ancient wisdom. The child is the symbol of the possibility to live and to renew this world.

CREATION OF THE DRAGON
2008-01-18
There is a question; how does something alive appear from nothing? What forces cooperate with it? What do people need to be creators of life?

ABOUT LOVE
2008-01-18
About Love… Which comments can be made about love? It is love between people, creation of new relationship and new life. Love is Very calm, very reliable, and stable, like world, the earth, itself.

NO NAME
2008-01-18
It is not ‘without name’, or even untitled. Rather it means “Before Name”. Something that does not understand itself but will be Somebody soon.

TIAMAT
2008-01-18
Tiamat is the ancient Babylonian goddess of Earth, of Women, and of Life. According to myth, her son cut her into parts and made the Earth from them.

TRAVELLING
2008-01-18
Travelling, as in the act itself; in the world, between worlds, into the soul, between souls, Into and between spirits.

DIVINATION ON THE WATER
2008-01-18
People have always tried to know their future. In ages past some used the waters of a sacred spring. What if they gazed into the waters and saw something terrible? Is this predition Fate, impossible to change, or is it mearly one possible future?
In this picture the circle is open; meaning that it is possible to influence the world of future through this world of present. The bird is the symbol of communication between present and future.

THE KEEPER OF THE SKY
2008-01-18
The Universe is full of energy and life. Different worlds are created by The Universe like foam on surface of the water, but they are all empty. There are some people who can inspire life and soul to these worlds – those with the gift of creativity. When they work, they use The Energy of The Universe to create their own worlds. The Keeper of the Sky is a spirit who transmits this energy to these people and helps them.

GAMAJUN
2008-01-18
In Russian mythology, Gamajun is a Bird who sings The Song of Wisdom. He remembers how our world was created. He knows what will be after the end of our world. For Gamajun all the existence of the world is but a moment for him.

YEAR OF THE TORTOISE/ YEAR OF THE MONKEY

This pair of paintings represents two sides of existence, life and death. Year of the Monkey depicts death: when a soul comes (goes) to another world, while Year of the Tortoise, represents the beginning of a new life in a new world.

thank YOU Nataliya, for your thought-provoking and insightful comment about "Keys".
Here in my hometown, many galleries have rejected my art. They say that my work isn't true art. So, when I receive such a heartfelt comment (especially coming from an artist of your caliber), it means more to me then you can imagine. Thank you :)
P.S. I love that you have your own website up and running! I can now see your wonderful artwork, in better detail.
Your friend, and biggest fan,

Nataliya, I hope it didn't sound like I was fishing for complements. It was just my dumb sense of humor, i'll still take the complements =). The descriptions of your work are great! They add a whole new dimension, to your already wonderful artwork. I think i'll do the same on my site.

Thank you for your comments, Michael!
The photos of some of my pictures are made by phone (shame on me!) so I am afraid that if I put here bigger images their quality will be worse.
I will try to do my best.

your work is extremely interesting, Nataliya. Too bad the images aren't bigger, I bet there is a lot more, that I am missing. I don't think i've ever seen watercolors used in such a fashion. My favorit is "The Year of the Monkey".
