My goal in painting is to capture the essence of my subjects, not just in a physical but in a spiritual sense. This is particularly true of my portraits, in which I aim to capture some sense of the person's soul. I find, though, that it is also the case in still life. Perhaps it is my own soul that I am seeking through the arrangement and portrayal of various objects.
