I call myself an ’abstract naturalist’. Most of my paintings are oil on canvas, colored pencil, pastels, or watercolors. My work is figurative or organic in subject matter. It is decorative, rich in color and strong in composition. I love to capture close up views, unusual angles or larger than life views of the subject matter. Using bright colors conveys an attitude of lightness, maybe even a smile now and then. The act of actually putting paint on a surface is truly an act of joy for me. My end goal is to ‘fill a space in a beautiful way’ as in statement made by Georgia O’Keefe.
I have been painting for the last 20 years locally. I received a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts in Painting from Herron School of Art. Most of my work is done in my home studio. I have also been meeting weekly with a group of artists for life drawing since 1987. Local restaurants, shops, churches and libraries is mainly where I show my work.
