In 1969 Troy David VanVeldhuizen (Troy David) was born in Faribault, Minnesota, with an almost immediate love and interest for art. He credits this artistic passion to his maternal family's bloodline. As a child, Troy David won the "Keep North Dakota Clean" state poster contest, and was recognized for his efforts with personal praise from former North Dakota Governor, Art Link.
In high school, Troy David focused his artistic skills toward his insatiable interest for pastels. This medium, with its bright array of colors, flexible texture and wide range of manageability, reminds him of the playful chalks of childhood. As a college student, Troy David utilized his artistic skills by creating pastel images of sports figures and selling them to classmates for extra spending money.
