I was born in Harrismith, South Africa, in 1975. At the age of 4 I moved to Durban where I was exposed to the Zulu nation and its culture. I developed a fondness for this nation and often depict Zulus or their culture in my realistic works. In 1990 I moved back to Johannesburg where I matriculated in 1992. I studied art at school but am mostly self-taught.
I returned to Durban after matric, where I supported myself through my art for a few years before going on to study photography at Natal Technikon.
By 1995 – the year my daughter was born – I was well acquainted with the usual art forms such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, charcoal, pen & ink. I became intrigued with living, moving art and decided to explore this further. I apprenticed in the art of tattooing and went on to become an acclaimed tattoo artist. I used this medium to support myself for a number of years.
