BACKGROUND
Richard Brown was born on New York’s fabled lower East Side, at Mulberry and Mott streets in "Little Italy." As he recalls, "It was difficult in those days, to say the least, trying to concentrate on art studies when our family was basically living from day to day in the depressed economy of the early fifties; especially in our neighborhood."
Upon discharge from the Army, after serving in South Vietnam, he attended college at night, while holding down a full-time job during the day. "It was natural, I suppose, for me to gravitate into the advertising business where I had heard it was a dog-eat-dog environment. Turns out, I heard right. But real art, not art direction, was always in my plans," he explained.
Meanwhile, Richard concentrated his efforts on advertising where his design skills both in print and television advertising ultimately resulted in over 300 major awards for several agencies.
