My portraiture is derived from two things really: A fascination with images of people and places, and a compulsion to draw mustaches on everything.
For the most part, I wheedle and cajole my friends and family into letting me take pictures of them. They have all graciously allowed themselves to be wrapped in tinfoil, or raced energetically around on a stick horse (this is where the art "happening" really takes place), it's hard to tell what will be necessary beforehand, and the memories are the best part. I also do portraits on commission (from an existing photograph, or one of my own photo "happenings"). I print the images on canvas or heavy artist paper and then paint on them with a variety of artistic media (larger works are done on canvas). Each piece is original.
