Abstract
I am painting in colors, seemingly random,
reflecting my state of mind at the time,
unmarred by stereotypical objects,
that predetermine what the painting is about.
Purposely avoid creating perfect squares,
intending to convey a message of distortion,
that things are not always what they seem to be.
things are not always nameable,
or fit neatly into one package.
everyone needs to brave others egos
and think for themselves and let go of falsity.
let go of names.
labels.
diagnosis.
I think often...
what it would be like if no one had a name?
Would we automatically be robbed of self identity
because we weren’t labeled at birth?
Or would we be more free
because we could leap past the connotation of the family name?
What if we were not bonded to uphold the family name?
Or, what if we named ourselves?
What does the name lynn mean to me.
How much do I identify myself by this seemingly serene name?
How would I act if I was named bertha or maud or daisy?
What if naming...
